How can a current loop be used to determine the presense of a magnetic field in a given region of space?

A current loop will experience a torque if placed in an external field, rotating (if free too) until its axial field is antiparallel.
Why did you delete your other question? A long solenoid or a Helmolz coil is needed for a fairly uniform field
