I have a 2+ year old Sony VAIO laptop that becomes pixelated after load is applied and I suspect old thermal compound on the processor. (I don't think it's the graphics chip because I ran a test console program that ran infinite loops - and after ~30 seconds the screen went fuzzy.) I have new arctic 5 silver compound and I'm wondering what's the best method of scraping off the old stuff once I have the copper heatsink removed?
What's the best way to scrape off the old thermal compound off a processor?
Use Ethel Alchoal and a lint free cloth after you use an old credit card or other plastic material as not to scratch the processor.. BUT it sounds like it's your GPU giving problems.
