Do Fruit Loops and Hamsters Mix??

I have a Djunjarian Dwarf Hamster. I gave Hammy (my hamster) a Fruit Loop and she loved it. Is this ok to feed a hamster? After I fed her one, she pleaded for another and tried to get out of the cage. Then she went away temporarily. Then she came back, but now she is back to normal. Any explination to this act?? Is it alright to give a hamster Fruit Loops? Please give serious answers, I am not joking around.

Do Fruit Loops and Hamsters Mix??
i wouldn't feed it to it it has so much sugar in it that it could kill i would get it yogurt drops if you want to give it something sweet and good for them mine love them and you can give 2 a day

good luck hope i helped

edit instead of cereal feed him oats they love them too and there also very good for them no sugar
Reply:Fruit Loops have way too much sugar to be good for your hamster. A cheerio might be a healthier snack one in a while, but really your hamster should be getting mostly hamster food.
Reply:I'm not totally sure if Fruit Loops are okay for hampsters. I would recommend you feed her cheerios instead.
Reply:I don't see any harm in giving her one, it should not have caused any problems. I would just be wary of the amount of sugar, which would be a lot for a hamster.

Perhaps just give her plain cereal in the future, without any sugar. Mine used to like Cheerios, cornflakes, branflakes, rice krispies and little bits of weetabix.
Reply:You should not be giving any foods that are high in sugar (such as fruit loops). One should not hurt her too much, just make sure you don't do it again.

Another thing that you should be careful feeding, is petstore food/treats. Any thing by the brand Kaytee has been known to cause cancer. Along many other products at petsmart and petco.

For a main diet, I suggest Harry Hamster food or Oxbow Hamster Food. Some petstores carry the HHF, but you have to order oxbow online.

For treats, plain wheat (sugar free) cheerios are good in moderation. I wouldn't give a dwarf hamster more than one per day. You can also feed her fruits and vegetables in moderation. Lettuce (everyhing BUT iceburg), a little piece of bell pepper, apple, tomato are all good treats. The main thing with treats is moderation. Make sure you don't give anything bigger than the size of her head.
Reply:NO! Stick with their diet food.
Reply:I do not think that that is advisable. The fact that she begged for another one, is similar to a child begging for more sweets, and then turning it into a bad habit. It doesn't seem to be a good idea to feed or to base your hamsters nutrition on foods packed with literally just sugar and very litlle fibre. Instead, it would probably be better to feed her more healthy foods like nuts. Foods high in sugar not only play around with chemicals in the brain, but also provide very little health benefits. Please...don't give your hamster any more sugar
Reply:No, not good because the sugar. But there might be a more natural version she can have, try the health area of your store and see if there is one sweetened with fruit.
Reply:Fruit Loops are WAY too high in sugar for any hamster let alone a dwarf. You should opt for healthier snacks like veggies and cheese.
Reply:They are awfully sugary, but one every great while is probably okay.

They are right- cheerios are a much safer bet. Get the one that has dries raspberries, strawberries, ans blueberries in it. I bet she will LOVE that stuff- hamsterhealthy too!
Reply:I think that the high sugar content, artificial flavorings and dyes would be bad for a hamster. How about some Cheerios, Kix, etc? A cereal that is a bit plainer. My hamsters always loved cereal too.
